Women's Ministries

At First Baptist Church, our Women's Ministries offer many opportunities for spiritual growth and fellowship. The groups listed below give an idea of the wide variety of opportunities available.

SISTERS — Inviting Women to Grow in Christ and Community

SISTERS SISTERS is a group of women dedicated to providing all women with opportunities to increase in spiritual maturity, deepen their understanding of the Bible and grow in sisterhood. It is our desire to impact lives for the Lord and to step out into the community to reach those who need support, encouragement and Christ. SISTERS' members plan Bible studies, enrichment programs and social events for women of all ages and walks of life. These activities are open to all women. Please contact the church office if you are interested in joining SISTERS.

ABW — American Baptist Women

American Baptist Women

WE HAVE TWO ACTIVE WOMEN'S CIRCLE GROUPS:
1. The Addie Stearns Circle meets on the second Thursday evening from September through May (with the exception of December).  They have a short business meeting and then a Bible study followed by dessert.

2. The Dorcas Circle meets the third Tuesday at 11:30 AM. They bring a sack lunch for themselves and spend 1 1/2 to 2 hours doing White Cross work. They meet from March through November.

All women are invited to attend any of their meetings. If a group would like to start another group, that would be welcome also, just contact the church office.

American Baptist Women’s Ministries is an inviting organization open to the needs of women. We focus on people and ministry rather than organizational structure. Each woman may choose to participate according to her needs, interests and gifts as she is led by the Spirit of God.

WE FOCUS ON:

  • Personal Development Ministries by providing opportunities for each woman to become and develop as God’s person: deepening her faith, developing her gifts and becoming a more effective Christian disciple and steward.
  • Church and Community Ministries by providing opportunities for women to build God’s faith community: developing relationships and meeting the physical and spiritual needs of others in their homes and their communities.
  • Mission and Service Ministries by providing opportunities for women to serve God’s world: participating in American Baptist mission outreach and meeting the physical and spiritual needs of others in our nation and in God’s world.

Apples of GoldABOUT APPLES OF GOLD:
Apples of Gold is a group mentoring program offered once a year by some older women in our church who have gained wisdom as they experienced life's blessings and failures. They have walked the path that young mothers are traveling today and know, value, and appreciate the efforts of being a wife and mom.

The Mentors would like to offer encouragement, organizational skills, and ways of developing your own interests and character—to teach you how to live out the gospel with your families in a lifestyle that is pleasing and truthful to God's word. In the classes, the Mentors will nurture, love and serve you with a joyful spirit as the scriptures in Titus 2:3-5 tell us to do.

The six-week program seeks to encourage young mothers to enhance relationships and cooking skills. They learn tips on making delicious, easy, healthy meals, and helpful hints on showing hospitality to others. The evenings are also full of fun and fellowship!

Apples of Gold Mentoring for WomenIN THEIR OWN WORDS:
“I just want to say how much I enjoy Apples of Gold! it is a fantastic, fantastic study and I love being loved by you more “mature” ladies. The smiles and hugs and wonderful stories of your lives are very meaningful. Thank you for opening up your heart and home to us.”

“Praise the Lord for bringing me to Apples of Gold in this beautiful autumn season. I’m embraced by you ladies as well as the abundant love. What a wonderful world!”

Apples of Gold began in 1995 in Holland, Michigan. The program is designed to nurture the younger women, but the mentors receive a great blessing as well. Lasting friendships are made through the ministry of Apples of Gold. If you would enjoy joining this program, contact the church office.

More information about the program can be found at the Apples of Gold website.
