Not The Cubs & Predestination

In my recommended area of Stuff Worth Watching I recommended not to watch the cubs during the mid-season to the end of the baseball season. I'm a lifelong Cubs fan. I kid with people that the reason that I believe in predestination is because I'm a Cubs fan. There's no way to logically explain why a person bleeds blue for Cubs baseball! They build you up and then they rip out your heart. People talk about the curse of the goat that wasn't allowed to go to the Cubs World Series game back many many years ago. Then the Bartman ball was blown to pieces and served with some kind of food or sauce at a restaurant. It's some really weird stuff. What I'm getting at is that I've really enjoyed watching the Playoffs and World Series this year since the Cubs aren't in it. This way I don't have to guess how the Cubs will blow it this time. I've always known that it's just a game, but when the Cubs are in contention for the playoffs or world series then it kind of warps your mind into thinking this is the year. We know for sure that this isn't the year, but as they always say "wait till next year"!

A Picture Perfect Day!

Last Sunday we had our annual youth hayride. It was a beautiful day for fishing, playing two games of football (soccer & American football)and mule riding! As the sun was going down it was hayriding time. There was a chill in the air and the cool wind blowing on our faces was just great! The fire felt really good afterwards as we roasted marshmallows. (Or some people burned their marshmallows to a charcoal black) That's not my style. I like a little taste and less texture from the charred outer wall of the marshmallow, but some people only like it that way. I think they just like seeing it on fire and then they like blowing out the firey mallows! I thanked the Lord for such a beautiful day and night to enjoy. Just think of what the REAL PERFECT DAY will be like in heaven. We only have a little taste of it now, but look out when we get to experience it! Every day will be a perfect day with the Lord for eternity! Yeeeeeehawwwwwwww!!!!

Am I still a baby?

Last night at 24/7 we had "Baby Night". We looked at a lot of baby pictures of the youth and it was a lot of fun! If a person was lucky enough they got to taste baby food. Mmmmm....mmm yuck! Of course, I was strongly encouraged to taste the green beans. Oh my! It was as bad as it looks. Then there are some people like Eric Hirschi who eat more than the obligatory spoonful. It's always fun to watch how people react to eating baby food or watching others eating it, because we're not supposed to eat baby food! It is geared towards babies because it's all mushy (and gross)! I was wondering about my life? Am I still a spiritual baby in some ways? I look back and I've seen how much the Lord has worked in me over the last 26 years as a Christian. I'm amazed at what He has done. In I Corinthians 3:1-3 it describes people as spiritual or worldly. It's not spiritual or unspiritual. I certainly want to be spiritual. That passage also describes our spiritual diet consisting of either milk or meat. I want to have spiritual meat, because I want to grow in Christ until the day I die. I don't want to stay at the same place. I still enjoy looking at my baby pictures, but I like to look at it as how far the Lord has brought me. It's also fun to see people to steps in their faith that helps them to grow up in the Lord!

Petra Means Rock!

Ok, so I finally got to go to see Petra on its' farewell tour. It was so much fun!
I felt like a little kid. My family was so good to put up with me in my late night adventure on a night before school & work. I knew we'd pay the price on Monday morning after a late night. Oh well, it was worth it. Like I said in an earlier entry that Petra was the first real good Christian rock that I got into at 16 years of age. They really blessed my life as I came to know Christ and grew in the Lord.
After four warm up bands Petra finally took the stage. I couldn't believe how many songs I knew the chorus to while they jammed. They did jam! The old school classic rock style is for each band member to have a solo. Bob Hartman on guitar is awesome.
His style is unlike anyone's I've heard. Even in the secular world. That's what makes him so good. He's an original kind of guy! Their acoustic set was one of my favorites too. It was great!! After the show we took off, because we still had a long drive from Dixon Illinois to Champaign. We took a short cut to our car through an alley. We just happened to walk right past the bus and door to the backstage. When we walked by the lead singer John Schlitt was there. We had someone snap a pic with our throw away camera and we thanked him. Then we walked past the bus and my daughter jokingly acted like she was getting on the bus to get the other guys pictures. Then I heard her say "there he is!" I turned and Bob Hartman (the lead guitarist and songwriter) was coming out of the bus. We took a picture with him and also thanked him for blessing us over the years. Wow, what a night! I was blessed and I'll always remember that night. Lately, when I have a sweet moment in life and just thank the Lord right there. I just tell him how blessed I feel and thank you for that moment in life! Petra rocked over the last 33 years, but they also encouraged me through their music to build my life upon the rock (Jesus)!
Thanks for the music and ministry Petra and thank you Lord for another SWEET moment!
